I love Twitter – it is a hub of information, news and cultural commentary. It is ever changing in what everyone is talking about, trending or following – this is why I adore it. There are some accounts though that always stay consistently incredible to follow, whether for news, trends, ideas, humour or more.

Over the years I have followed (and unfollowed) a number of interesting accounts but here are some of the most useful business accounts that I follow:

@BBCTrending
Knowing about what is trending is vital for my day to day job of running social media accounts. BBC trending twitter account is not just about knowing what is trending but finding more about the stories behind them.

@mintelnews I love facts and figures but Mintel is different; it is information that you can use to help your business either through useful marketing facts, gaps in the markets and more. @jonloome As a social media marketer, it is always interesting to follow Jon and his experiments. His blogs posts are also extremely informative and useful for any one who wants to improve their social media.   @SMExaminer Social Media Examiner post a good range of social media guides that are useful for beginners. There are more technical posts too but the very straight forward approach makes even technical easy to digest.

@sengineland

Digtial marketing is important for every business today – Search Engine Land is one of the best for SEO news and often has up to date news about Social Media, PPC and more.

@Econsultancy
Similar to Search Engine Land, Econsultancy is great at covering the digital marketing industry. While it is not news, this Twitter account shares lots of useful blog posts and guides. Now it may be easy to want to overlook these if you are not in digital marketing but following these accounts you will get some useful tips or news that will help your business be seen and make more money via the web.

@Nonprofit Many businesses often overlook non for profits – they are often seen as the behind businesses. Charities are very good at creating engaging stories that gain lots of engagement but this account keeps you in the loop with key fundraising campaigns and tools for charities to use. @SAI Business Insider’s Tech Twitter is great to keep updated on Technology news. Stories include everything from 3D robotics, computer tricks and digital marketing news. It is fantastic @brightonseo and @kelvinnewman I adore Brighton SEO and the other events that Kelvin Newman and his team run and the BrightonSEO Twitter account is full of humour and slides from talks. It for me it great, especially for those events that you can’t attend. Matched with Kelvin’s Twitter account full of wit, humour and behind the scenes news, the two accounts are incredibly useful and fun to follow.

@HRH_TheQueen
While this may be a humour account it is very good at capturing what is happening in the world. There is also the real Queen’s account but it doesn’t capture all of the world, politic, and celebrity news like this one does.

@qikipedia
Facts and figures should never be overlooked and if you are struggling to find something to talk about it is always worth checking through the QI Elves’ tweets – you might find something relevant to your brand! With their tweets consisting of a mix of facts and interesting news it might give you some really interesting content to share.

There are so many other accounts but these are the ones that I follow. Do you follow some of these accounts already? What Twitter accounts do you find useful? Which Twitter accounts do you suggest?

I’m already working on some of my favourite blogger accounts so I would also love to hear what Blogger related accounts that I should add to my list.

    Thanks Ali – what industry are you focusing on?

      Hi again Anna,
      I may have used the word ‘industry’ inappropriately but what I actually mean was I am building my new blog (tq for your visit) and from the ground up I want to include SEO tactics in it too as opposed to my earlier blogs where I was simply throwing words, images etc in it. So yeah, discovering SMExaminer & Econsultancy’s Twitter handle provided by you here is a gift I could never repay. @(=^.^=)@
